The Tongmenghui are a monastic order primarily active East of Oceania. The order is considered mostly harmless as their main contribution to the world is craft beer. Tongmenghui beer is world famous and their monks often travel with their shipments. A Tongmenghui monk would not be considered out of place in most civilized lands.
What the Tongmenghui’s religious beliefs actually are is unclear. Like most monastic orders, they preach asceticism and self-control. To this end, they practice martial arts and meditation, granting them control over their outward emotions, heart-rate, and bodies. The order is also known for their compassion. The monks will often undertake charitable efforts, feeding the poor and taking in orphaned children. They are also known for cleaning and maintaining public areas and providing free shelter to travelers. Seeing the good that they do, very few bother questioning what their order is about.
What these people don’t (and couldn’t) know is that this charitable organization is actually a front for The Free State, a group of radicalized anarchists known for assassinating political figures. Their martial arts abilities keep them alive in a fight, their ability to control their breathing and heart-rate makes them natural liars, and their tendency to travel the world allows them to fit in almost anywhere. They are able to shelter all sorts of unsavory figures with very little legal oversight, allowing them to hide assassins until the heat dies down.
